Travelling with young children can be stressful. You need to find plenty of activities to keep them amused all day. Then there are mealtimes to worry about. And, of course, you want to squeeze in some time to relax… this is meant to be a holiday after all!

That’s the wonderful thing about cruises – they give you everything you could need in one place. Cruise ships today are packed with activities, kids’ clubs and entertainment that will have your little balls of energy amused throughout the day and night. And with babysitting and night-minding services ready to take over at nighttime, you’re free to let your hair down too!

Kids’ clubs galore

Cruise ships today know how to entertain all ages – and that includes the littlest cruisers. Here’s our pick of the bunch:

Have a Seuss-sational cruise with Carnival Cruises

When it comes to little kids, Carnival Cruises has entertainment well and truly covered. Carnival’s “Seuss at Sea” has an amazing program of activities to entertain young cruisers. Just wait for the gasps of joy at breakfast time when they see the size of the Cat in the Hat pancakes! There’s also storytelling, parades, arts and crafts, and much more. Look out for Seuss at Sea on Carnival Legend and Carnival Spirit.

Be star-struck with Royal Caribbean

Not to be outdone by Carnival, Royal Caribbean has partnered with DreamWorks to offer a star-studded program for little cruisers. Whatever happens, don’t sleep through the DreamWorks Character Breakfast (on selected ships). Expect squeals of delight when they see Madagascar’s Alex and the Penguins, Fiona and Shrek and lots of other friends from the big screen. Selected ships offer exclusive shows like The Madagascar Aqua Show. And there are character parades, 3D movies and more.

Mealtimes have never been so easy

You won’t need to worry about fussy eaters on your family cruise! Most cruise lines offer special kids’ menus all their favourites. And some are going above and beyond to make mealtimes even more fun. Every evening, P&O Cruises’ Plantation Restaurant hosts a kids-only dinner where special meals are served with a side of colouring-in and guest appearances from the TC and Skipper mascots!

Romantic dinner for two

When was the last time you enjoyed a romantic dinner without the kids? Royal Caribbean offers My Family Time Dining, where little kids eat dinner early before being whisked away to a program of evening activities. P&O Cruises also offers early dinners for kids.

Babysitter, please!

It might be a family holiday, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve some “me” time! Royal Caribbean offers a special drop-off option in the Babies and Tots Nursery. And the cruise ship’s “Sitters at Sea” are available to look after your kids in your cabin for a small fee (children must be aged at least one).

P&O Cruises’ Turtle Cove and Shark Shack kids’ clubs stay open until 10:30 pm. They also provide a late-night sitting service until 1 am for a fee. And Carnival Cruises provides a Night Owls service, where kids ages 11 and under can enjoy supervised fun with their friends until 1 am. So you can find your favourite bar and relax!
